Why The Wild Hunt matters
The Wild Hunt is a Fellhollow secondary quest and the access gate for Dragonwilds mounts. Jagex’s Umbral Sands notes state that the quest must be completed to access a mount even if the player has already unlocked a customization option.
That means a cosmetic or later mount reward does not bypass the quest system.
How to start and track it
Reach Fellhollow through the normal story path after Dragon Slayer. The community quest index places The Wild Hunt in Fellhollow and associates its start with Vannaka in the region. Because NPC position and prerequisite dialogue can change, use the silver secondary-quest entry and live map marker as the final authority.
- Finish enough Fellhollow progression for the quest to appear.
- Speak to the marked quest giver and toggle The Wild Hunt in the map’s Secondary list.
- Follow the silver objective marker and read the updated text after every major interaction.
- Establish travel access before long regional steps; Fellhollow is significantly more dangerous than the opening woods.
- Complete the final hand-in and confirm the mount interface becomes available.
Preparation
- Fellhollow-ready armour and a repaired weapon;
- food, clean water and status recovery appropriate for wither-rot areas;
- a ranged option for enemies that cannot be reached safely;
- enough empty inventory space for quest objects;
- a marker or Lodestone route back to the quest giver.
The quest is a progression and travel task, not simply a purchase. If ordinary Fellhollow enemies use most of the supplies before reaching an objective, improve the current gear tier first.
Mount unlocks after the quest
Completing The Wild Hunt opens mount access associated with Fellhollow’s Terrorbird progression. The 0.12 update later added customization variants for both the Terrorbird and Magic Carpet.
The Magic Carpet is earned through Moon Garou quests in Umbral Sands, not directly from finishing The Wild Hunt. The Wild Hunt is still a prerequisite for using the mount system, which is why players can own a later customization and remain unable to mount.
Troubleshooting
- Customization unlocked but no mount: complete The Wild Hunt and its final hand-in.
- Quest not visible: progress the Fellhollow story and check the silver Secondary list.
- Marker appears wrong: toggle the quest off and on, then follow the current objective text rather than an old video coordinate.
- Magic Carpet missing: continue the Moon Garou questline in Umbral Sands after the mount system is unlocked.
Use the mount guide for the differences between unlocking the system, earning a mount and applying a customization.
