How quests are organized
The map separates Primary and Secondary quests. Primary quests appear in gold and stay active; secondary quests appear in silver and can be toggled individually. The objective text below each tracked quest is the authority when an older walkthrough disagrees with the current build.
Main progression route
| Stage | Quest or arc | What it advances |
|---|---|---|
| Tutorial | First Steps and the opening lessons | Gathering, crafting, cooking, combat, runes, magic and the route to Bramblemead |
| Brynmoor and Ghornfell | Dragon Slayer | The first Dragon General, Velgar, and completion of the opening regional arc |
| Fellhollow | Withering Heights | Fellhollow’s main progression and the route toward Imaru |
| Dowdun Reach | Black Knight’s Fortress | The Black Knight Titan and the gate leading onward to Umbral Sands |
| Umbral Sands | Moon Garou and desert story quests | Regional allies, resources, the Fight Cave and Fuzan |
| Scorned Wilderness | Regicide | The 1.0 endgame region, raid path and Kuldra finale |
The table is a progression map, not a complete list of every conversation or side quest.
Important secondary quests
Jagex’s launch history confirms a growing set of optional quests, including Things That Go Boom In The Night, Doric’s Quest, Letters for the Dead, What Remains is Written, Mirror, Mirror, Cook’s Assistant, Animal Magnetism and A Room with a Garou.
The Wild Hunt is especially important because the official Umbral Sands notes say it is required to access mounts, even when a customization option has been unlocked elsewhere. Moon Garou quests later provide the Magic Carpet path.
A dependable way to follow any quest
- Open the map and select the intended secondary quest, or confirm the gold primary objective.
- Read the next-step text before travelling; some objectives only appear after dialogue or a previous task completes.
- Follow the gold or silver objective marker and place your own marker on blocked entrances or a safe return point.
- Keep quest objects until the journal clearly advances. Avoid destroying an unfamiliar unique item merely to clear inventory space.
- If an objective does not update, compare the journal, map marker and current game version before following an old coordinate.
Quest gates that matter
- Finish the tutorial before treating the world as an unrestricted sandbox; it grants the basic tools and systems the story expects.
- Dragon Slayer belongs to Dragonwilds and does not share steps with the RuneScape quest of the same name.
- The Wild Hunt is a system gate for mounts.
- The Black Knight Titan must be defeated before passing the gate into Umbral Sands.
- Regicide was added in version 1.0 and belongs to the Scorned Wilderness/Kuldra conclusion.
Spoilers and verification
This hub gives names and unlock relationships but avoids dialogue and finale spoilers. Individual walkthroughs distinguish official progression facts from community-observed routes. When the in-game objective differs from a walkthrough, follow the current journal: several online guides were written before Umbral Sands or version 1.0 existed.
