Where Imaru fits in progression
Imaru the Revenant Dragon is Fellhollow’s major dragon encounter and the second Dragon General highlighted in Jagex’s launch history. Complete the region’s main progression, including Withering Heights, before treating the lair as an ordinary world boss.
Fellhollow introduced Steel-tier melee gear, Green Dragonhide ranged gear and Splitbark magic gear. Those are useful progression benchmarks rather than mandatory named sets.
Preparation checklist
- Bring a complete, repaired Fellhollow-tier combat set.
- Carry strong food and the current healing options shown by the game.
- Use an anti-dragon shield when the selected combat style permits it.
- Prepare runes or ammunition for aerial phases.
- Activate a nearby return route and bring Law Runes if your travel plan depends on Lodestones.
- Leave enough inventory room for quest rewards.
Community-observed mechanics
The official Wiki’s strategy page describes four repeating ideas: airborne energy bolts, a sweeping breath attack, ground spikes that build Wither and a spectral phase that changes how Imaru can be damaged. These are player-documented mechanics, not an official Jagex combat sheet, so read the live telegraph if a patch changes the timing.
During ordinary phases, limit attacks so stamina remains available for a late dodge. Ranged and magic builds can continue dealing damage while Imaru is airborne; melee builds should use that time to recover and reposition rather than chasing an unsafe hit.
During the spectral sequence, community documentation directs players to use the Soul Rift mechanic, handle the spawned Rotsworn enemies and reach a Purification Pool before the Wither timer expires. If Imaru is immune, stop spending ammunition and resolve the arena mechanic first.
Phase priorities
- Opening: learn the bolt, breath and spike tells without overcommitting.
- Spectral transition: enter the required altered state, interrupt the dangerous sequence and cleanse at a Purification Pool.
- Later pressure: avoid lingering Wither zones and deal with adds before they remove the safe space needed for the next cleanse.
- Final sequence: preserve enough healing and stamina to repeat the spectral mechanic cleanly instead of racing the last portion of health.
Rewards
The story kill advances Fellhollow progression. Community item records also associate Imaru with the Undead Draconic Visage, Imaru’s Head and later Imaru-themed crafting, including the Dragoncurse Shield and Imaru’s Talon path. Exact rare-drop rates are not treated as permanent facts here.
Difficulty settings affect how punishing the encounter is. If standard Fellhollow enemies already consume most supplies, upgrade before repeating the boss.
